Calligraphy workshop with Haji Noor Deen

Dear friends of the Museum for Islamic Art,

We would like to invite you to another calligraphy workshop with the artist Haji Noor Deen. Get to know the fascinating art of Sini calligraphy, a synthesis of Arabic and Chinese writing traditions. Try out the difference between brush and qalam for yourself!
In the 3-hour workshop, Haji Noor Deen will talk personally about his working methods and present his works. In the practical part that follows, you will create calligraphies that you can take home with you.

About the artist
Born in 1963 in the Chinese province of Shangdong, Haji Noor Deen has spent decades perfecting his art and developing a sophisticated system of Chinese-Arabic calligraphy that combines Chinese aesthetics with Arabic script. In 1997, he was the first Chinese artist in Egypt to receive a certificate in Arabic calligraphy. Later, in 2017, he was honored with the Ijazah Certificate from the Ottoman Calligraphy School in Turkey. His works have been exhibited in over 20 countries and can be found in museum collections around the world, including the British Museum, the San Francisco Asian Museum, the National Museum of Scotland and the Harvard University Art Museum.
