Invitation to the first FMIK Majlis

Dear friends of the Museum for Islamic Art,

Personal dialogue among like-minded people is a valuable part of any vibrant community. Members have repeatedly expressed a desire for regular get-togethers and opportunities for informal dialogue. The Doodle date survey among the members has shown that the majority would like to have a first FMIK regulars' table, or rather, our first FMIK Majlis (Arabic for meeting) on Saturday, 5 July 2025 from 11:00 to 13:00. We would like to welcome you at Levant Caféhaus in Trautenaustraße 5, 10717 Berlin from 11:00 am.
There is the possibility to order à la carte or the brunch buffet Levantine ‘All you can eat’ with coffee/tea for 29 Euro per person. Please let us know your preference when you register so that we can pre-order accordingly in the café. A binding registration is required by 05.06.2025 at info@fmik.de.

First FMIK Majlis at the Levant Café – a review

On Saturday, July 5, 2025, several association members gathered at the Levant Café for the first lively FMIK roundtable meeting. The gathering was initiated by board members Nadia Nagie and Abdurrahman Kulaç.

Following a warm welcome by the owner of the Levant Café, Haytham Abdolfatah, on Trautenaustraße in Wilmersdorf, participants placed their orders. The extensive menu had something for everyone: Arabic coffee with cardamom and cinnamon, date milk, Moroccan mint tea, and breakfast platters with hummus, ful, olives, cheese, eggs, za’atar, and flatbread.

After an introductory round in which everyone had the opportunity to speak and attentively listen to one another, a lively exchange unfolded around new ideas and wishes for future gatherings. These ideas were written down on index cards. It quickly became clear that there was a shared desire to make association life more engaging, vibrant, and dynamic.

Suggestions included two to three regular roundtable meetings per year, a summer festival, excursions and trips, talks by members themselves, and increased opportunities for volunteering at the museum and within the support association.

After the meeting, some participants spontaneously visited the exhibition "Threads of Life along the Nile – Tapestries of the Ramses Wissa Wassef Art Center in Cairo", displayed on the upper floor of the James Simon Gallery. The exhibition impressed with its striking tapestries and batiks.

Our next FMIK Majlis is planned for December 2025. You are warmly welcome to join us!
