The concert series "Mshatta Lounge" aims to create a transcultural platform that uses musical expression to portray today's diversity of society in transition. The Museum of Islamic Art has the special potential to represent this social diversity. Local musicians are invited to interpret a selected object of the exhibition with their musical language. The resulting compositions are staged in many ways. On the one hand, the "Mschatta Lounge" concert series gives every artist the opportunity to give a concert in the Mshatta Haal of the same name, which includes not only its own repertoire but also the composition of the object and brings it to life for the first time. On the other hand, the newly created titles will be integrated into the exhibitions and thus brought to life for visitors and beyond the concert. In addition, the images with views of the respective exhibition object will also be available online, so that even those who do not visit the museum are invited to experience the objects through the music.
Through these diverse approaches and perspectives, music should be made tangible as a positive migration experience. Many instruments of classical and modern music have their ancestors in the Middle East, whether guitar, piano, violin, clarinet or oboe. The Museum of Islamic Art has numerous illustrations of these. Without cultural exchange today's music could not have been created. Musical collaborations and so-called fusion music brings us today this mutual fertilization in memory and continues it in our time accordingly.
"Mschatta Lounge" is a cooperation project of the Museum of Islamic Art in the Pergamonmuseum together with Piranha Arts, financed by the Hauptstadtkulturfond Berlin.
