Special guided tour "(Un)seen Stories - Looking, Locating, Illuminating"

July 21, 2024

Dear friends of the Museum for Islamic Art,

We cordially invite you to a guided tour of the current special exhibition "(Un)seen Stories - Looking, Locating, Illuminating" at the Kupferstichkabinett, Kulturforum on July 21, 2024 from 11 am.
The exhibition is curated and produced by the scientific museum assistants in training of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation - around 28 people. The focus is on surprising, sometimes hidden object histories that are not always visible at first glance. The cross-collection approach is special, as the exhibition brings together objects from almost all the collections of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. Three objects from the collection of the Museum of Islamic Art are also represented here: a chandelier tile from Iran, a fragment of a marble panel from Chirbat al-Minya and the impressive door knocker in the shape of two dragons.
Franziska Kabelitz, scientific museum assistant in advanced training at the Museum of Islamic Art and a member of the extended board of FMIK e.V. since 2023, will guide visitors through the exhibition from 11:00. She will not only go into more detail about the object histories presented, but also report on the curatorial and logistical challenges faced during the creation of the exhibition. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to enjoy a coffee together in the museum café.

Binding registration is required by July 18, 2024 at f.kabelitz@smb.spk-berlin.de

An accompanying catalog is available for download free of charge.
